New Farm Store Opened 6th Oct 2007

Stanley Gate Nursery has opened it's new farmers store. With a vast range of freshly grown vegetables from local farms in and around the Ormskirk area.We are also supplying fresh fruit.

Pickup you fresh fruit and vegetables in store today or why not have a go at growing your own.

Autumn Planting

Although shoots, stems and branches stop growing in the Autumn, below the ground the roots go on growing and spreading until late November - early December.Next Spring, Autumn planted plants will be off to a flying start by strong new roots.

Alpines

Plant them in the rockery, borders, containers, and gaps in walls and paving. These delicate looking but extremely hardy plants add colour to the most unlikely places.

Conifers

These can be decorative in shape and colour, and range from miniature varieties to tall slender types, see Choosing Conifers

Fruit

Soft Fruit

There is a wide variety of soft fruits, for dessert use or for preserves, and many will freeze effectively. Can be fitted in amongst your shrubs in the odd corner, and climbing varieties make good screens.

Top Fruit

Even if you have a small garden you have room for an apple, pear or plum if you choose the right variety. You can grow cordons, espaliers or dwarf trees in very small spaces -even in tubs on patios!

Heathers

Easy to grow and available in a wide variety of colours. Choose carefully for colour all through the year. (Some heathers need a lime-free soil.)

Herbaceous

Plant these in your borders for island beds for a constant blaze of colour throughout the summer, year afteryear.

Roses

Available in a huge range of colours and varieties to give wonderful colour and perfume from June to October. From miniatures to climbers, large flowers to clusters, ground cover to standard - there has to be a rose for you

Shurbs

For colour all year round and little maintenance - no wonder shrubs are so popular as there is one for every need. Shrubs for containers, shrubs for ground cover, shrubs for foliage, shrubs for flower - there's no end. Get a good book before you choose - you'll be glad you did.

Trees

Add grace and maturity to your garden - however large or small it may be. From trees for containers to trees that will grow to massive heights - there's one for you. Remember - trees are a haven for birds! (See leaf let No. 23 "Trees for the Small Garden".)

Follow the label instructions carefully and support your plants until established.
